Sexocorporel sexual therapy training

Module 3: Advanced Training

The Advanced Training Module builds on Module 2: Clinical and deepens the principles and practice of Sexocorporel therapy. Participants develop their ability to observe and read the body in a differentiated way and increasingly learn to connect this with assessment, exploration, and sexual therapeutic practice according to Sexocorporel. At the same time, they explore and practice emotional self-regulation as sexual therapists as well as the development of the therapeutic relationship in Sexocorporel sexual therapy.

The Advanced Training Module corresponds to the former Advanced Training Program. It is conducted with its own content and, with a few exceptions, independently of the Clinical Module. It comprises five four-day seminars and an additional 15 hours of advanced supervision in fixed small groups.

The next ZISS Advanced Training Module will be held in Zurich starting 08.02.2028 and in Kißlegg starting 20.01.2028. Advanced supervision sessions can take place earlier by arrangement.

Learning Objectives

Observation and Exploration Skills

The focus is on differentiated observation and body reading, as well as on integrating these into therapeutic work.

  • Perceive the physical organization of actions, emotions, and cognitions in a differentiated way based on the three dimensions of space, rhythm, and tone
  • Include body areas, posture and movement, breathing, gaze, and voice in observation
  • Clearly distinguish between observation, impression, and interpretation
  • Verify impressions through concrete observations
  • Put observations into words as objectively as possible
  • Consider observations in relation to the components of the Sexocorporel model and work out the logic of the system
  • Derive questions and testable hypotheses from observations
  • Observe oneself during observation and reflect on one's own patterns of body reading
  • Explore how one's own physical organization – particularly posture, muscle tone, breathing, and gaze – influences the perception and assessment of the other person
  • Integrate observation and body reading into therapeutic work from the outset

Therapeutic Work According to Sexocorporel

The focus is on deepening therapeutic work according to Sexocorporel and on the increasingly integrated interplay of body reading, assessment, exploration, and intervention.

  • Use the client's concern as the common thread throughout the therapeutic process
  • Increasingly connect body reading, assessment, exploration, and therapeutic intervention
  • Consider the person, their concern, and their difficulties in relation to the components of the Sexocorporel model and work out the logic of the system or problem based on their abilities and limitations
  • Develop and test therapeutic hypotheses based on observations and information
  • View clients as success models and use their existing abilities and resources as the starting point for therapeutic work
  • Use body-oriented explorations as part of therapeutic work from the outset
  • Use assessment, exploration, and intervention as a circular process in which new experiences and observations inform the ongoing therapeutic approach

The Therapist and the Therapeutic Relationship in Sexocorporel Therapy

The focus is on self-regulation as a therapist and on developing the therapeutic relationship in Sexocorporel therapy. Attention is directed both toward the therapist and their own reactions and patterns, as well as toward the relational dynamics between therapist and client. These skills are explored and practiced in the Advanced Training Module and further developed in Module 4: Expertise .

  • Perceive one's own physical, emotional, and cognitive reactions in therapeutic contact and practice self-regulation
  • Vary one's own physical organization and explore connections with experience, perception, and contact
  • Recognize one's own needs, expectations, and projections and reflect on their significance for the therapeutic relationship
  • Reflect on one's own beliefs, ideologies, and values and distinguish them from those of clients
  • Distinguish between auto-centering and hetero-centering and practice auto-centered therapeutic work
  • Perceive unpleasant and distressing emotions in oneself and in clients and explore and practice ways of dealing with them
  • Perceive and reflect on one's own boundaries in therapeutic contact
  • Perceive shame and defenses against shame in oneself and in clients and explore and practice strategies for dealing with shame
  • Reflect on one's own openness and goodwill toward the client:in; explore factors that support or hinder this
Scope and Methods

Methods

Advanced training takes place primarily through observing, exploring, experiencing, and reflecting.

A substantial part of the training takes place through sexual therapy role-plays, body-oriented explorations, and mini-modeling. Participants work from different perspectives: as therapist:in, as client, and as outside observers. They also observe one another and explore specific personal concerns through mini-modeling.

The focus is on experiencing and exploring rather than on the transmission of theory. Experiences and observations, as well as participants' own experiences and sexual therapeutic work, are reflected on together.

In addition to the five seminars, 15 hours of advanced supervision take place in fixed small groups. The cases presented here provide the framework for role-play vignettes in which sexual therapeutic work according to Sexocorporel is further explored and practiced.

Scope

5 plenary seminars of 4 days each
15 hours of advanced supervision in fixed small groups
Total duration: 1 year

Supervision and Personal Experiential Work

*Mandatory: *

*Optional: *

  • As part of each seminar, group supervision (1.5 h) is offered for interested participants in the Clinical and Advanced Training Modules.
  • Regular personal experiential work and supervision is generally recommended for all professionals working with Sexocorporel.
  • As part of personal experiential work, attendance at seminars in the Sex and Love – Vivre en Amour series is also recommended.

*With regard to attending Module 4 Expertise: *

  • Individual personal experiential work: An additional 4 hours of individual personal experiential work with iSi-recognized supervisors (live or online) are required by the completion of Module 4 Expertise. These can generally be completed during or before the Advanced Training Module.
  • Individual and/or group supervision: A minimum of 40 hours with iSi-recognized supervisors (live or online) must be completed by the end of the Expertise Module. Supervision can already be started in earlier modules. Group supervision during the seminars of the Clinical Module and the Advanced Training Module (10x1.5h=15h in total) counts toward this requirement, as does participation in the advanced supervision sessions as part of the Advanced Training Module (15h).
Certification

Successful completion of the program is recognized with a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Clinical Sexology (2nd level Institut Sexocorporel-International Jean-Yves Desjardins iSi) ZISS. In addition to achieving the objectives listed above, requirements include attendance of at least 90% of the instructional time, a sufficient score on the module examinations, and completion of a short written paper. Participation in the advanced supervision sessions between seminars is mandatory. Attendance at a minimum of 8 Sexocorporel personal experiential sessions is also expected.

After completing this module, sexual therapeutic work according to the Sexocorporel approach should take place under supervision with a ZISS supervisor or other iSi-recognized supervisors .
