Jean-Yves Desjardins (1931-2011)

Professor Jean-Yves Desjardins, psychologist and clinical sexologist, for more than 40 years, he dedicated his life to the study of human sexuality. He founded, together with Claude Crépault, the Department of Sexology at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) (www.sexologie.uqam.ca).

As a result of his clinical observations and research, Jean-Yves Desjardins developed the Sexocorporel. This model of sexual health was taught at UQAM from 1968 until Professor Desjardins retired in 1988. He then continued his teaching in Quebec and Europe in order to disseminate it further. In the 1980s, Jean-Yves Desjardins was very active in the development of various pedagogical and audio-visual teaching tools, in addition to his clinical and academic activities.

For more than four years, he hosted a daily radio show. In this way he contributed to the dissemination of sexological knowledge in the population. At the same time, he led hundreds of extremely successful seminars in Quebec under the title “Vivre en amour” (Life in Love). These seminars enabled him to reach hundreds of thousands of men and women who were looking for concrete tools to improve their sexual and love lives.
